The Consortium of National Law Universities has confirmed there will be no changes to the syllabus or pattern of CLAT 2027, and has opened its Expert Committee Report on CLAT reforms for public feedback until 31 August 2026.
The decision came out of the Consortium's Annual Governing Body meeting on 18 July 2026, confirmed in an official press release on consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The Governing Body resolved that the CLAT 2027 Convenor and paper-setters will only adopt the Committee's suggestions on question format and quality "in a feasible manner" - meaning the exam's overall structure stays exactly as CLAT 2027 aspirants have been preparing for it.
What the Expert Committee looked at
The Committee was formed following the Consortium's 4th Advisory Board meeting, chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice Indu Malhotra, with independent academic members from the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, Columbia Law School, the University of Cambridge and BML Munjal University. Its brief covered question quality, paper structure, syllabus, and benchmarking CLAT against international entrance tests such as the US LSAT and UK LNAT.
What this means for CLAT 2027 aspirants
Students preparing for CLAT 2027 - set for 6 December 2026, 2-4 PM, in offline mode - can continue with their existing pattern of study; nothing about sections, marking or format changes for this cycle. Registration, open since 3 August 2026, continues on the Consortium's official portal until 31 October 2026. The Governing Body has explicitly deferred any structural reform to CLAT 2028, "after further consultation," so any format changes are at least a year away, not part of this year's exam.
Students, teachers and members of the public who want to weigh in on the reform proposals before they're considered for CLAT 2028 can submit comments through the feedback form linked on the Consortium's official website, before the 31 August 2026 deadline.
