The Union Public Service Commission has released e-Admit Cards for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, confirmed directly on the official upsc.gov.in "What's New" notice board, which lists the update with a last-updated date of 14 August 2026 โ about a week ahead of the exam's first day.
What's actually confirmed
UPSC's notice titled "e - Admit Card: Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026" routes candidates to the official application portal, upsconline.nic.in, where candidates who cleared the CSE Prelims 2026 screening round can log in with their registration credentials to download the card. The Mains exam itself runs across five days โ 21, 22 and 23 August, a weekend gap, then 29 and 30 August 2026 โ with the Essay and General Studies I-IV papers in the first block, the qualifying Indian Language and English papers on 29 August, and the Optional Subject papers on 30 August, in two sessions on each exam day.
What this means for aspirants
With cards live and the exam roughly a week out, candidates should check their allotted centre, session timing and the photograph/signature printed on the card immediately, since UPSC's window to flag errors closes well before exam day. UPSC has also flagged, as a standing notice on its homepage, that all candidates will undergo Face Authentication at the venue this cycle โ aspirants should carry the same photo ID used at the time of registration, not just the admit card, to avoid last-minute entry issues.
Important pointers
- [14 Aug 2026] UPSC's official "What's New" board lists the e-Admit Card for Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 as released, per upsc.gov.in.
- [Download] Admit cards are issued only through the official application portal, upsconline.nic.in, using registration login credentials โ UPSC does not email admit cards.
- [21โ30 Aug 2026] CSE (Main) 2026 runs across five days: 21, 22 and 23 August, then 29 and 30 August, in two sessions per day.
- [Venue rule] UPSC has confirmed Face Authentication is mandatory for every candidate at the exam venue this cycle โ carry the same photo ID used at registration.
- Myth check: A released admit card is not final proof of eligibility โ UPSC's provisional-admission note still allows the Commission to withdraw candidature later if eligibility documents don't check out, so keep original certificates ready regardless.
