Introduction
In Bengaluru, a one-year NEET Class 12 programme is listed at ₹1,60,000 to ₹1,70,000 on Vedantu's Bangalore fee page, published 8 September 2026. Unacademy's Rajajinagar centre page lists the same programme at ₹2,10,000. Those are list fees from different centres and dates, before scholarships and discounts.
Refund terms are the other difference. Unacademy's refund policy makes an online subscription payment final and covers online subscriptions only, so a centre refund has to be agreed in writing. Vedantu's published policy treats long-term courses, crash courses and one-to-one tuition as generally non-refundable.
Parents also ask whether Unacademy is safe to pay after its sale to upGrad, which closed on 1 September 2026. This page covers all three questions and ends with a worksheet to fill in before paying either platform.
We publish this page at Online Coaching 4u, a directory for comparing coaching institutes. We do not teach courses or collect course payments. Both brands have centre listings in our directory.
Key takeaways
- Neither platform wins on brand. Pick the batch first, then compare the net fee and the refund terms in writing before paying either.
- Compared list to list, Unacademy's Rajajinagar fee is ₹2,10,000 against Vedantu's ₹1,60,000 to ₹1,70,000 for NEET Class 12, both before scholarships or discounts.
- Unacademy online subscription payments are final, and its policy covers online subscriptions only. Vedantu's June 2023 policy treats long-term courses, crash courses and one-to-one tuition as generally non-refundable, so get current terms in writing.
- Unacademy now belongs to upGrad and keeps its brand, so the practical question is who runs your centre and who refunds you.
Why does the net fee matter more than the listed fee?
The net fee is what you actually pay after scholarship, discount, tax and extra charges. Our formula is: net fee = list fee − discounts and scholarship + GST (goods and services tax) + registration and other charges. Our coaching fee comparison calculator applies it to your own quotes.
List against list, from the two Bengaluru pages above (one-year programmes, different centres, different publication dates):
- NEET Class 12: Unacademy's ₹2,10,000 is 24% to 31% above Vedantu's ₹1,60,000 to ₹1,70,000 (₹2,10,000 ÷ ₹1,70,000 = 1.24; ₹2,10,000 ÷ ₹1,60,000 = 1.31). Typical ranges are in our guide to NEET coaching fees in India.
- NEET dropper: ₹2,10,000 is 83% above Vedantu's ₹1,15,000 (₹2,10,000 ÷ ₹1,15,000 = 1.83). Our JEE dropper batch cost guide covers dropper pricing.
Illustration only, our model: if Unacademy's 20% early-bird discount applied, its Class 12 fee would be ₹2,10,000 × 0.8 = ₹1,68,000, while Vedantu's scholarship (up to 90% via its admission test) could also lower its fee. The assumptions are one centre each, list fees, no GST or registration and, in the list comparison, no scholarship. The percentages are our arithmetic on those two fees, so they do not show which student pays less.
Scholarships of "up to 90%" are ceilings. On Unacademy's centre page they depend on marks and test scores, and Vedantu ties its scholarship to an admission test. Vedantu describes its fees as approximate and says registration charges may be separate, so ask for the all-in figure. The early-bird offer applied to Unacademy's 2026 batches, and offers change with each batch and city.
What do the Vedantu and Unacademy refund terms allow?
Both published policies are restrictive: Unacademy's refund policy makes an online subscription payment final, and Vedantu's refund and cancellation policy, published 13 June 2023, treats long-term courses, crash courses and one-to-one tuition as generally non-refundable.
Vedantu's crash courses are non-refundable. Its one-to-one tuition, described on its one-to-one JEE and NEET page, is also non-refundable, and the marks-improvement guarantee does not apply to it. The Vedantu Improvement Promise (VIP) covered only courses enrolled from 1 March to 30 June 2023, so a 2026 buyer cannot use it.
Unacademy's policy covers online subscriptions only, so a centre refund must be requested in writing. Policies are revised, so get the current refund or guarantee terms for your batch in writing before paying. Read recent reviews of the exact product you plan to buy, since a review of school tuition says little about a JEE batch.
Our recommendation: before paying for anything non-refundable, buy the smallest unit first, such as a few one-to-one hours or the shortest subscription term on offer. For the full method, see how to check a coaching refund policy.
- Term
- Online long-term course
- Vedantu
- Generally non-refundable
- Unacademy
- Online subscription final once paid
Does the upGrad takeover change how you should pay Unacademy?
Unacademy is not shutting down: upGrad's acquisition closed on 1 September 2026, and the Unacademy brand continues. TechCrunch reported an all-stock deal worth ₹19.55 billion, about 94% below the company's 2021 peak valuation, with Gaurav Munjal remaining CEO.
Separately, YourStory reported in January 2026 that Unacademy would hand company-run offline centres to franchise partners.
Our inference, not a finding: ownership news matters less to you than a simple question. Which legal entity runs your centre or subscription, and who pays the refund? Make sure the receipt and the refund terms name that entity. The wider market is covered in our page on edtech consolidation in India.
Which should you choose for your situation: Vedantu or Unacademy?
Choose the format that matches how you study, then test that specific batch. This is our recommendation, not a ranking of the two companies.
The two centre programmes overlap on inclusions, payment and parent updates, so these points rarely separate them; the written list for your batch does. Ask any centre you shortlist which payment option applies to the batch you want, and what interest or fees come with an EMI. Treat the inclusions, payment route and reporting schedule as claims to confirm, not as differences, and ask each centre for them in writing.
If you are a dropper choosing an online course, our guide to online NEET courses for 2026 compares the options.
- Your situation
- You want a teacher to yourself
- What to check
- Vedantu sells one-to-one live classes. Start with a few hours, because that product is non-refundable.
- Your situation
- You study independently and want a low monthly cost
- What to check
- Unacademy's Plus and Iconic plans start at ₹684 and ₹912 a month (as of 24 October 2026). Ask for the total for your plan length, since payment is final.
- Your situation
- You want a physical classroom
- What to check
- Compare the actual centre fee in your city for both. Sit in an ordinary class and get the all-in fee in writing.
- Your situation
- You are a dropper
- What to check
- Compare the dropper batch fee, not the Class 12 one: the gap above is wider.
What should you check in writing before paying either platform?

- Check
- 5. Leaving mid-year
- Pass
- A stated amount returned for the unused period
- Fail
- No exit clause

How can Online Coaching 4u help you compare Vedantu and Unacademy centres?
We help you compare institutes before you enquire, free of charge: students can browse, compare institutes, send enquiries and submit reviews without paying us. We do not teach courses or collect course payments, and promoted placement is labelled as promoted.
Profiles can show courses, location or availability, establishment year, ratings, reviews and a separate Google rating. Some profile details come from public sources rather than from the institute, so confirm them with the provider. Our directory includes Vedantu Learning Centre, Vijayawada and Unacademy Centre, Ahmedabad. A Verified badge means the institute shared its details and we verified them. Your contact data goes only to the institute you enquire about, and the site uses no tracking cookies or ad networks.
Our directory covers institutes, so confirm these platforms' online plans with the provider. To compare centres, open Online Coaching 4u, filter by exam, city and study mode, and send a callback request to the centres you shortlist. Then confirm fees, batches, faculty and refund terms with each provider.
Our verdict
Pick by batch, not by brand: the right one is the programme whose total fee after discounts and whose refund conditions you can get in writing.
How we compared
We compared Vedantu and Unacademy online products and Bengaluru centre programmes for JEE and NEET on list fees, discounts, inclusions, payment options, parent updates and refund terms. We used each company's own website pages plus TechCrunch and YourStory reports on the upGrad deal, as of 24 October 2026. Teaching quality and results were not compared.
