GATE Coaching Online: What It Costs With GST and What to Check

A GATE-only live batch costs about ₹60,180 to ₹76,500 including 18% GST in the five main branches, based on Made Easy's and ACE Engineering Academy's own price pages as of October 2026. Data science and AI batches start lower, at ₹54,280. Recorded courses run from ₹3,333 to ₹75,520.

Branch key: EC is electronics and communication, CS computer science, EE electrical, ME mechanical, CE civil, IN instrumentation, and DA data science and artificial intelligence. The five main branches are EC, CS, EE, ME and CE. ESE is the Engineering Services Examination, and a PSU is a public sector undertaking, a government-owned company.

Our calculation is the listed price multiplied by 1.18. For example, ₹60,593.22 × 1.18 = ₹71,500.

Three things stand out:

• The lowest main-branch live price, ACE's IGNITE batch at ₹60,180, is also one of the longest courses, at 9 to 10 months. The cheapest line is not always the one you can finish.
• Adding the ESE to ACE's regular EC batch moves the bill from ₹69,030 to ₹84,960, which is ₹15,930 more.
• Within Made Easy, civil, mechanical and electrical cost ₹5,000 more with GST than the other three branches.

Recorded courses range from ₹3,333 (GATE Academy's "GATE Basic 2027" for computer science, video on demand; confirm what it includes and whether GST applies) to ₹75,520 for Made Easy's tablet course with GST.

You do not need paid coaching if your fundamentals are sound and you can keep to a schedule alone. The free NPTEL GATE portal, a joint IIT and IISc initiative, offers lecture mappings to the full GATE syllabus, previous-year paper solutions and scheduled Sunday mock tests (from 16 August 2026). Paid courses sell structure, not extra syllabus.

The point many students miss is the test series. A mock test series is a set of full-length timed papers that rehearse the exam. Made Easy's live-online fee includes its All India GATE 2027 Online Test Series, and ACE's fees include a free online test series. If you buy lectures alone, you will likely need a test series separately.

Our recommendation for a strong self-learner is simple. Study from NPTEL and standard textbooks, and solve as many years of previous GATE papers as you can find. Then add one paid test series close to the exam, so your first full-length timed paper is not on exam day.

Match the format to the weeks you have left. As of October 2026, about four months remain before the first GATE 2027 paper on 6 February 2027 (official schedule, which says dates are liable to change). A 7 to 9 month foundation batch started now cannot finish before the exam. Compare ACE's 130 to 150 day Flexible batches (confirm the current start), revision courses such as Made Easy's Rank Improvement Course for GATE & ESE 2027, and test series.

Made Easy's live-online course lists about 750 to 800 teaching hours over six or seven days a week, with doubt resolution during live sessions. Some subjects in its batches L9 to L13 are delivered as recordings, available with 1.5x watch time until the exam date. That pace suits someone with long daily study blocks. If your days are not like that, you will fall behind and pay for recordings you cannot get through.

Compare the batch for your own branch, not a provider's general reputation. Both Made Easy and ACE price branches separately.

The listed price ignores GST and the hours left when you join. Divide the GST-inclusive fee by the teaching hours you will actually get. This is our model, not an official figure, and it makes early and late joiners comparable.

Worked example, with Made Easy's EC and CS live-online batch:

• Fee with GST: ₹60,593.22 × 1.18 = ₹71,500.
• If all 750 to 800 listed hours are delivered, that is ₹71,500 ÷ 800 = about ₹89 per hour, up to ₹71,500 ÷ 750 = about ₹95 per hour.
• If you joined with only 400 hours left (an assumed figure for illustration), the same fee is ₹71,500 ÷ 400 = about ₹179 per hour.

Late joining does not make a course a bad buy, because recordings of missed classes change the sum. Ask whether backlog recordings are included and how long you can access them. Treat an online GATE course as non-refundable until the provider confirms otherwise in writing. Refund rules differ by product, so a quote for a live batch tells you nothing about the rule for a tablet or recorded course.

Made Easy's page for its Tablet Course for GATE 2027-28 is explicit: "The fees once paid will not be refunded/returned to the student under any circumstances." The same page lists ₹64,000 plus GST, with access for 24 months from issue. That is a high-value purchase with no exit.
