How to choose
- 1
Ask for the total in rupees with GST
Ask for one quote giving the final rupee amount, with Goods and Services Tax (GST) shown separately. A "starting from" figure or a dollar price with no rupee total is not a quote. - 2
Check foreign-currency charges
For dollar-priced plans, ask your bank about foreign-currency charges and the exchange rate on payment day. Card companies may keep such fees for non-US cardholders. - 3
Get the access end date
Get an end date, or a number of months, in writing, including whether recordings stay available. Match it to the test date you book with ETS so the window cannot lapse before the exam. - 4
Separate live hours from recordings
Ask for two separate numbers, live hours and recorded hours. To compare live courses, divide the rupee total by the live hours. - 5
Count full-length mocks and official tests
Ask for the number of full-length mocks and which tests ETS itself wrote. Insist on at least one official ETS test, because ETS sets the real exam. - 6
Get the refund rule in writing
Ask for a number of days, what triggers the refund, and where to send the request. Read any guarantee's conditions before you rely on it. - 7
Confirm your target programmes accept the GRE
Check that your target programmes accept the GRE and what scores they expect, since each programme sets its own rules.
Key takeaways
- Before paying for GRE coaching online, get five things in writing: the total in rupees including tax, the access end date, live hours, full-length mocks and the refund rule.
- Of the seven providers compared in October 2026, three publish a price, all in US dollars. None publishes a price in rupees.
- With the $249 exam fee, the three published routes we modelled cost $284.97 to $1,239 before a $55 reschedule.
- Our directory has a GRE filter with two Mumbai hybrid institutes. It is free to browse and enquire, and you confirm fees and refunds with the institute.
What should you get in writing before paying for GRE coaching online?
Get five terms in writing: the total cost in rupees including tax, the date your access ends, how many hours are live, how many full-length mock tests you get, and the refund rule. A provider that answers all five in one message has told you more than most course pages do. Each check below has a pass and a fail.
Is the total in rupees, with tax shown?
Pass: one quote giving the final rupee amount, with Goods and Services Tax (GST) shown separately. Fail: a "starting from" figure, a dollar price with no rupee total, or a price released only after you fill in a form. For dollar-priced plans, ask your bank about foreign-currency charges. Magoosh's refund terms note that card companies may keep such fees for non-US cardholders.
When exactly does access end?
Pass: an end date, or a number of months, in writing, including whether recordings stay available. Fail: "flexible" or "lifetime" with no date. Jamboree's live online course lists one year of validity, while its self-paced programme offers 2 or 6 months. Our recommendation is to match the end date to the test date you book with ETS, so a two-month window cannot lapse before the exam.
How many hours are live, and how many are recordings?
Pass: two separate numbers. Live hours are hours an instructor teaches in real time. Fail: a single "48 hours" with no split. Jamboree's online course lists 48 live hours and its self-paced programme lists 48 hours of pre-recorded video. Manhattan Review's online classic course lists 28 hours of live instruction. To compare live courses, divide the rupee total by the live hours.
How many full-length mocks, and are any official?
A full-length mock is a practice test that follows the whole exam in one sitting. Pass: a number, and which tests ETS itself wrote. Fail: "unlimited practice" with no count of full-length tests. Jamboree's online course lists 7 full-length tests, and its self-paced programme adds 2 official ETS tests to its 7. IMS's classroom course lists 8, and Magoosh lists up to 6. Our recommendation is to insist on at least one official ETS test, because ETS sets the real exam.
What is the refund rule, in writing?
Pass: a number of days, what triggers the refund, and where to send the request. Fail: "ask at the centre". Magoosh offers a full refund if you email within 7 days of purchase, and a guarantee of a 5-point score improvement or your money back. Read the guarantee's conditions before you rely on it. Princeton Review says it refunds tuition or lets you repeat the course free, and adds that restrictions apply. Our guide on getting coaching refund terms in writing shows what to ask.
Where can you compare GRE coaching institutes before you enquire?
Our online coaching directory is where to compare GRE coaching institutes before you send an enquiry. It has a GRE exam filter that, as of October 2026, shows two Mumbai institutes in hybrid mode (classroom plus online): IMS Learning Resources and CATKing Educare. The Apex Institute profile in Visakhapatnam also lists GRE prep.
Browsing, comparing, sending an enquiry or callback request and submitting a review are free for students. Each listing shows its Google rating separately from our own reviews. As of October 2026 those ratings are 3.748 for IMS Learning Resources and 4.583 for CATKing Educare. A rating is a signal about the institute, not a quote for its GRE course. Our explainer on verified coaching institutes shows what a Verified badge covers.
You contact the institute and confirm fees, batches, faculty, duration and refund terms with it directly. Send the five questions from this page in one message, and compare the replies with our ten evidence checks for choosing a coaching institute.
What do seven GRE providers publish on their own pages?
Three of the seven providers publish a price, all in US dollars, and none publishes one in rupees. The four with no price send you to a demo form, a centre or an adviser. Jamboree and IMS, the two Indian providers in the table, publish no price.
Figures are from each provider's own page as of 23 October 2026; prices can vary by city or after a form.
Manhattan Review's online course works out at about $35 per live hour ($990 divided by 28 hours). That is our arithmetic, a benchmark for the one published live-course price. Some pages may show a price after you pick a city or submit a form, so re-check before you decide. The count describes what the pages publish, not what a counsellor will quote you.

How much does GRE preparation cost once you add the exam fee?
With the exam fee, the three published routes cost $284.97 to $1,239 before a reschedule, and $339.97 to $1,294 with one. These totals are our model, built from the prices in the table above plus the ETS fees as of October 2026. They are in dollars because those providers publish dollar prices.
Manhattan Review also lists $890 for early bookers on its page; the table uses the standard $990.
The exam fee includes score reports to up to four programmes, according to the ETS India GRE page. Each extra report costs $40, per the ETS fees page. ETS points Indian test takers to its India site for local pricing, so check the final rupee amount at checkout. The rupee cost of the dollar routes depends on your bank's rate on payment day. Put a rupee quote from an Indian provider through the same arithmetic in our coaching fee comparison calculator.

Should you pay for live GRE classes or choose a self-paced plan?
Choose live classes if you need a fixed timetable and same-day answers to doubts. Choose a self-paced plan if you can keep a schedule alone. In our view the published self-paced routes are the cheaper way to get video lessons, practice questions and full-length mocks.
On the published prices, the gap is large. The Manhattan Review online course costs 6.6 times Magoosh's from price ($990 against $149). That ratio is our arithmetic, and it compares two courses that differ in format. If you are weighing classroom against online, our online vs offline coaching comparison covers fixed schedules and travel.
Whichever you pick, run the five checks first. A live course with 48 live hours and 7 mocks is only good value if the end date leaves you time to use them. Before paying, confirm that your target programmes accept the GRE and what scores they expect. That is a recommendation, since each programme sets its own rules.
How we built this list
We compared seven GRE providers in October 2026, drawn from the providers that publish GRE course terms on their own pages, and included those that meet the criteria above. Providers other than Online Coaching 4u follow in rank order after it, and the comparison table lists them alphabetically, not as a ranking. Figures are as of 23 October 2026, and prices can vary by city or after a form. Online Coaching 4u publishes this page and is one of the companies listed; we are a directory, not a GRE provider, and IMS Learning Resources is also listed in our directory.
