What the deadline means
The 10 October date is a hard cut-off for creating an NMAT registration. NMAT works differently from CAT: registration and scheduling are two separate steps. You register first, and then book a date, time and test centre (or an online-proctored slot). Scheduling stays open for 12 more days after registration closes, until 22 October 2026. So if you're still deciding on a date, register now and book the slot later.
As of 8 October 2026, GMAC has not announced any extension. Both official GMAC pages we checked still give 10 October as the last registration date. Don't plan around an extension that hasn't been announced.
Who should register
NMAT scores are used by NMIMS and a set of other B-schools. GMAC's guide names ISB, SPJIMR, K J Somaiya Institute of Management and FLAME University among them, and mba.com says more than 58 schools accept the score. For CAT 2026 candidates, NMAT is a useful second attempt. CAT is held once a year, while NMAT lets you test up to three times between 2 November and 20 December. GMAC says the exam has no negative marking, three equally weighted sections (Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, Logical Reasoning) of 36 questions each, and a 120-minute time limit.
Your registration fee covers score reports to up to five schools, chosen at registration. Each additional school costs INR 400. Check each programme's own admission page for its NMAT cut-off and application deadline, because these are set by the schools, not GMAC.
